The Mitford Museum Launches Literary Weekend

Jul 20, 2022

HUDSON, NC – Get ready to GetLit! in Hudson, NC, on September 30 and October 1, 2022.

The Mitford Museum is launching a brand-new literary weekend this fall, bringing successful North Carolina authors together with fans and aspiring writers. The inaugural event features New York Times bestselling authors Wiley Cash and Sarah McCoy, and former NC Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti.

The weekend will include author presentations, classes, book signings, and an art exhibition featuring NC woodcut artist Michael Winslow.

“GetLit! is about nurturing our state’s literary future,” says museum founder and #1 New York Times bestselling author Jan Karon. “As a child attending school in Hudson, my creativity was nurtured by my first-grade teacher Nan Downs. We want to inspire, encourage, and empower tomorrow’s writers as we work to increase interest in reading and the literary arts.”

GetLit! opens on Friday with presentations by Cash and Bathanti. Attendees will also enjoy a box lunch, a book signing, and a reception for the opening of Winslow’s art exhibition.

Saturday focuses on writing classes in memoir, fiction, and poetry. Winners of the GetLit! writing contest will be announced during lunch with McCoy providing the keynote. Winners in the adult and youth categories will receive a cash prize of $750 each.

Registration is available at GetLit! 2022 (etapestry.com). Registrants can sign up to attend Friday ($85), Saturday ($100), or both days ($160). A tour of The Mitford Museum along with lunches and refreshments are included with registration.
