Celebrating our first anniversary

Oct 5, 2022

Here we are. One year after the best grand opening event ever, The Mitford Museum is celebrating a year of firsts. Just a few highlights include:

  • Welcoming visitors from all 50 states to Hudson, NC. (Not to mention those from Canada, Scotland, and Australia!)

  • Hosting inaugural events–a spring tea, a summer reading program, and a fall literary weekend.

  • Supporting the next generation of readers and writers through Caldwell County Smart Start, the Education Foundation of Caldwell County, and the school system.

  • Developing a dedicated team of staff, board members, and docent volunteers who have made so much of our work possible.

  • And making exciting plans for the future like an oral history library, a youth photography competition, and children’s theater.

Of course, one of the biggest blessings of this past year has been the passionate support of Mitford fans. You’ve visited, emailed, followed us on Facebook, and donated to support the work of the museum. None of this would mean anything without YOU.

We’re excited to include YOU in our October 2022 anniversary activities.

  • We kicked off the month with our GetLit! Literary Weekend including an art exhibition by Michael Winslow that will be on display through October 29.

  • Happy Endings Bookstore is offering 20% off EVERYTHING (except museum tickets) in October. Use coupon code MITFORD20 at checkout.

  • We have an in-store giveaway for a Mitford Snowmen serving set with coffee pot, six cups, two soup bowls, and a set of Mitford Christmas books. Stop by to enter during regular operating hours.

  • Drop us a line (or respond to this email) to tell us what Mitford has meant to you. We plan to share your responses in a variety of ways!

The Mitford Museum

The Mitford Museum is North Carolina’s newest literary landmark.

Founded by #1 New York Times bestselling author, Jan Karon, the museum's mission is to advance the common good through literacy, creativity, and community. Often called Jan’s ‘book without covers,’ the museum is a place of common ground, where people from varied backgrounds can come together to feel welcomed, cared for, and at home.
